About the Minecraft Nether Portal sound
Obsidian frame, flint and steel, and then this: a low warbling hum that sounds like the air itself is being stretched. The Nether portal ambience is some of C418's best work on Minecraft, a drone that manages to be simultaneously inviting and clearly a warning, growing louder and stranger while you stand in it waiting to be pulled through. Nearly ten seconds long, so it loops well under anything that needs to feel like a threshold. Every returning player recognises it before the first second is out.
