About the Record Scratch sound
The sound that stops time. Fused permanently to the freeze-frame and to "yep, that's me — you're probably wondering how I got here", it signals that a story is about to rewind and explain itself. The trick works because a needle dragged across vinyl is genuinely jarring: it interrupts music, which is to say it interrupts expectation. Use it to cut someone off mid-sentence, to open a story at its worst possible moment, or whenever a scene needs to visibly stop and reconsider what it has just done.
