About the Nokia Ringtone sound
Francisco Tárrega wrote Gran Vals for solo guitar in 1902 and could not possibly have imagined the outcome. Nokia lifted thirteen notes from it, and that fragment went on to ring from billions of handsets — making it, mathematically, one of the most-heard melodies in human history. It is a genuinely charming little phrase, which is more than most default ringtones manage. Play it in a public place and watch everyone over thirty pat a pocket that has not held a Nokia for fifteen years. The reflex outlived the phone by a decade.
