About the Mario Pipe sound
A descending bloop, and the plumber is gone. The warp pipe is one of gaming's cleanest ideas, a doorway that requires no explanation, and Nintendo gave it a sound effect that conveys downward departure in about a third of a second. That makes it perfect for exits: leaving a conversation that has taken a turn, ducking out of plans you never intended to keep, or vanishing from a call the instant somebody says 'while I have you all here'. Down the pipe, problem solved, whereabouts unknown.
OriginThe pipe warp sound from Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo).
