About the Sonic Ring sound
Bright, metallic and worth exactly one more chance at life. Sonic's rings are a genius bit of game design: you do not have a health bar, you have a scattering of gold that explodes everywhere when you get hit, and this chime is the sound of buying safety one ring at a time. Thirty-odd years of players hear it and relax slightly. Play it for small saves, near misses, and any moment where you technically got away with something you should not have. Losing them all makes a very different noise.
